I am the Sky is a love letter to my life and my mental health.
Society loves a clear blue sky, but some days I am gray and drizzly. Others, I am a swirly midnight blue. How can I make peace with all the shades of light and dark I feel? Clouds float in and out of my life - some dramatic and ominous, others white and fluffy. I want to hold space for all of it. Just like the sky, life is unpredictable. We simply don't know what each day will hold and the surprise of it all is as beautiful as it is challenging.

Ridiculous, Resilient Me was all about stripping away the roles I played, which then left me standing vulnerable and virtually naked, searching to find my authentic self. Wannabe Warrior is the continuation of my story, the what next? Exposed and raw, I needed to examine myself and my core beliefs in order to evolve. This is the story of how I battled my fears to become the person I am today.
Here's an excerpt:
"It turns out that my name means “warrior”. That definition doesn’t suit me at all. Warriors are badass, fearless and when the wind blows their billowing hair, their luscious locks don’t get stuck in their lip gloss. I, on the other hand, am usually a hot mess of anxiety and fear. I can make a hard choice, when necessary, but tend to do so only after overthinking, overanalyzing and crying a little bit.
A series of events, which occurred when I turned 40, forced me to examine the ways fear has held me back and made me small. I was tired of being small, of not living up to my true potential, so I decided to stare Fear in the face and uncover all of the vicious and hurtful lies he had been telling me.
I envision Fear as a dude, a real bastard, in fact. He whispers to me so quietly that I don’t even know he’s there. He tells me that I am not enough, that I am a bad parent, that others are better, prettier, smarter. I’ve had it with his b.s! I need to become a warrior in order to rise above my fears and live a better life. I need to dig deep and investigate my core beliefs, so that I may break free of the dirty, little lies Fear tells.
Becoming a warrior has not been easy, nor graceful. When I am fearful, I stop and listen to what my inner warrior tells me and try not to run in the opposite direction. I refuse to run anymore. If I am still, just for a moment, I may be able to overcome my fear.
I’m still working on it. I am not a warrior, yet.
I am a warrior-in-training. I am a wannabe warrior."

I don't know about you, but I spend my life playing a LOT of different roles. I'm a working woman. (Scratch that. I'm a workaholic.). I'm a loving (and exhausted) mother. I'm an exceptional wife (in my opinion). I'm a daughter, a friend, a writer, a teacher... the list goes on and on. I don't have a clue what my "authentic self" looks like! (And did you notice self is singular? Does that mean I only get one?). Turning forty may or may not have been a teeny midlife crisis for me. It left me feeling reflective about my journey and asking myself some hard questions. What if I stopped thinking about everyone else and started thinking about ME? If I strip away all of the roles I play, who would be left without all of my labels and responsibilities? Looking back on the last decade of my life, I realized it was an absolute gong show. The silver lining is that I've discovered a lot about myself and my own resilience. I may have tripped on my proverbial high heels and landed flat on my face many times, but I always get back up and use those lessons to become a better version of me. This is the story about some of the lessons I've learned in my less-than-graceful attempt to navigate my life. If you're like me, still trying to figure out who you are, this book is for you. I hope you'll laugh at my mistakes, see yourself in my failures, and appreciate some of the lessons I can share. Maybe, just maybe, we'll both uncover our authentic selves along the way.
